We’ve talked about French scale model producer AutoArt on multiple occasions and this time we’re here to show you their latest creation, something that steps outside the world of miniature vehicles. We’re talking about AutoArt’s Sport Caliper watch, a timepiece that seems to be all about automotive passion.
This is a fully automatic watch, with the hardware offering 21-jewel automatic movement, namely 8215 Miyota from Japan. You can have the case, namely a brake rotor, in either a stainless steel or a carbon finish, resembling the brake choices you get in the real world.

In the first scenario, the case is milled from stainless steel billet and polished by hand, while in the second you have a ionized plating over the stainless steel disc. No unsprung weight reduction here, but at least it looks different. As for the caliper, this is cast aluminum alloy, just what you get on an actual car.

There are plenty of details that replicate the action of the real thing

AutoArt explains they’ve paid attention to all the tiny details in order to stay with the chosen theme: “As on a real car, the watch’s brake disc rotates if you spin it. The curved radial air vents are cast just as they are on full-scale brakes, with the ducts open all the way to the center. The cross-drilled holes are created by actually cross drilling each hole, one by one, manually. Then the friction surface is “weathered” by hand with sand paper to create a circular hairline texture simulating the look of real brake discs after hard use.”

You even get a dozen screws on the inner edge of the disc rim, a nod to the coupling elements of the two-piece high performance brake discs. And if you’re the kind who likes to admire the mechanism, the glass window at the back allows you to do just that.

The strap is rubber and comes with ventilation holes on both sides, albeit wearing a rather cheesy explanation: “The black rubberized watchband is designed with through-hole ventilation slots on both sides, just as with the air vents of the real brake disc, to keep the wearer’s wrist cool and dry.”

Regardless of the chosen finish, you can have the Sport Caliper timepiece for a suggested retail price of $499 (around EUR400) plus tax. In case you decide to order it, expect a French stitch-featuring gift box.
