Bugatti Veyron gets a ticket for parking on a double yellow lane - that is awkward; but a Porsche 918 Spyder being fined for speeding, that sounds more likely. Hey, don’t get us wrong, we’re not encouraging such behavior, we’re just saying it feels a lot more natural for something like that to happen, and it did.
It was just another proper evening in the world of supercars revving down the city’s street when these YouTubers stumbled upon a gorgeous Porsche 918 Spyder. There was no speed involved, initially, but things took a different turn some time later. However, the footage does not show the moment the speedometer went through the roof, so we only have the word of those who shot it.

Even so, we are talking about a proud member of the famed hybrid triad - Ferrari LaFerrari, McLaren P1 and Porsche 918 Spyder. Speed comes naturally with these machines. We’re not saying you haven’t heard the story before, but let us look at the specs once more. It’s for the sake of petrolhead delight, mind you.

The mid-engined plug-in hybrid sportscar is powered by a naturally aspirated 4.6-liter V8 engine that develops 608 horsepower. Add two electric motors delivering an additional 279 horsepower and you get a combined output of 887 horsepower. Each of the 918 units that were ever produced has a top speed of around 210 mph, but what is truly impressive is their acceleration.

Porsche claims that the 0 to 62 mph sprint is covered in 2.5 seconds, the 0 to 120 mph in 7.2 seconds while reaching 190 mph from a standstill takes a mere 19.9 seconds. All these figures prove that we are talking about a work of great engineering that almost asks you to push the pedal as you take the wheel. But like anything beautiful on this planet, there were some setbacks around it too.

We’ll remind you that at least two recalls were issued, with the first aiming all the units, concerning a rear axle control arm that may break. That was back in July, last year. Later on, in December, another recall was issued for all Porsche 918 vehicles that were manufactured from February 25, 2014, to September 18, 2014 as the “front lower control arms may fracture.”
