What do you do when you own a Lamborghini Aventador Pirelli Edition? You find a machine that’s faster, so you can trash your tires while trying to keep up with it. And if your opponent happens to be a Porsche 918 Spyder, you’re in for one hell of a race.
The two very distant relatives battle it out during a dedicated event in Europe, and we have plenty of stuff to learn from here.

We don’t expect anybody, no matter their car knowledge, to be amazed by the 918 taking the victory. After all, we are talking about the difference between a supercar and a hypercar here.

However, the race allows us to see just how much of a difference the driver’s reaction time makes. As the girl drops the flag, the Lambo guy takes the lead and managed to hold on to it for a while, simply thanks to his swifter start - truth be told, the Lambo driver did miss the first start, so perhaps that’s what sharpened up his reflexes for the second one.

Both cars use launch control and this is also a great opportunity to see just how violent this Lambo can get. As a reminder, the Aventador Pirelli edition doesn’t come with bespoke technical details, being one of those stickers-and-badges kind of editions.

Sant’Agata Bolognese wanted to honour its sole tire supplier since its inauguration back in 1963, but they weren’t prepared to change the hardware for this.

As for the Porsche, we expect the 918 to have been in a low state of charge. We’ve seen a race between a 918 and a Huracan (which is pretty close to the Aventador’s performance) that brought important real-world information. To be more precise, the Porsche was low on electron juice and it took quite some time for it to pass the Raging Bull.
