Porsche 911 GT3 Customer Orders "Kills Bugs Fast" Door Sills, a Retro Pun

We're not sure what your list for Santa includes, but ours has GT3 RS written 911 times in a row. However, while we're here waiting for the even more track-happy version of the 991 to be released, there are people out there having tons of fun with their "standard" GT3s.

Let's take the owner of the car in the pic above, for instance. The man ordered his 911 GT3 with illuminated door sills that write "Kills Bugs Fast". The photo was published by Porsche Exchange, a dealer in Illinois, which has confirmed its authenticity.

The story behind this punch line

The younger part of the audience needs to be reminded that this is a punch line that Porsche itself launched almost two decades ago. Porsches aren't the kind of cars that need too much advertising - after you get to drive one, things are pretty much self-explanatory. Still, over the years the brand has launched some of the most delicious print ads the industry has ever seen and this has to do with one of them.

It was the mid 90s when Porsche introduced the 993-generation Turbo and as for the car's bug-terrorizing ad we are talking about, you can see this below. Society was as guilt-constrained as it is today, so many marketing campaigns were considerably juicier than the disclaimer-flooded one we get nowadays.

Perhaps in a piece of German humor, Porsche released this ad for the final air-cooled incarnation of the 911 Turbo - given the cooling method, the thing was still "related" to the VW Beetle, which many refer to as the Bug.

And boy did the ad had a hell of a supercar to talk about. The 993 Turbo matched the performance of the iconic 959, delivering an intoxicating experience. Oh well, at least those bugs went down in a honorable manner.
