Whenever the 914 nameplate is mentioned, it's almost as if something in the Porsche crest doesn't look right. Aside from Zuffenhausen fetishists and those who wish to grab the most affordable Porscha ever, not too many people appreciate the Porsche-VW joint development of the early 70s.
Well, when it comes to the example we have here, you can scrap all that. Sure, this 1974 model may have started out in life as a 914/4, the lesser VW version of the car, which was produced by Karman. But the machine is now more like a classic version of the Cayman GT4, packing a mid-mounted 911 engine - we're dealing with a 3.2-liter Carrera heart here.

With this 914 tipping the scales at 2,150 lbs (wet weight), the flat-six, which delivers 200 hp and a peak torque of 197 lb-ft thanks to Weber 40mm triple-throat carbs, is more than enough to deliver a massive punch. For crying out loud, this car received a 220 percent jump in terms of power.

Further down the power line we find a custom 915 transaxle, while those Fuchs rollers sending the power to the road come in an 11x16-inch size, using 265/45 rubber. Up front, the 7x16-inch wheels are shod in 225/50 tires.

The wheels are well filled by a set of 930-generation 911 brakes, so stopping power is just as thrilling.

The aim here was to deliver a streetable machine that would feed on Porsche's famous handling balance. And when the master brake cylinder and the rear deck lid are the only parts that haven't been touched by the custom wand, the result will show many Neunelfers who's boss.

With its 2-inch roof chop and its understated bad boy looks, this 914 is currently for sale at canepa collection.

What's that? You want to know more about the interior? Think about a melange of minimalism and Not Safe For Work elements and you can't go wrong.
