Porsche Dissects the Macan, Drives It on 3 Wheels to Showcase Handling

“A car that drives as if it were on rails” - this must be one of the greatest stereotypes produced by the automotive world and yet there are certain vehicles to which it applies perfectly. One such model is the Porsche Macan, with Zuffenhausem making sure its crossover sticks to the road like no other car in its class.

Porsche has now released a clip that showcases the Macan’s handling. Besides listing various goodies from the company’s alphabet soup (stuff like PTM - Porsche Traction Management), the video puts the Macan in a rather interesting perspective.

CGI helps with bringing us... under the road and it’s not everyday you get to see a Porsche being driven from under it, even if it’s virtual action. Moreover, the footage shows the Macan lifting the inside rear wheel, with the move being captured from a cool angle. It's like a mechanical dissection.

What about the real-world feel of the Macan?

The main idea with the Macan in the neutral handling. There are slight traces of oversteer, but no serious rear end action, even when you’re manhandling the thing. We’d call this a mature handling.

The only problem comes when you’re trying to perform a very swift evasive maneuver, as the Active Rollover Protection (ARP) system can lock one of the front wheels for a brief amount of time. This can cause a bit of understeer during such maneuvers, but Porsche says its normal. Truth be told, we’ve experience similar situations with just about every crossover we’ve tested.

Still, this is probably the only area where other CUVs come close to the Macan - in general, none of its competitors manages to match its well-sorted handling.
