He produced music or worked as a musician for famous artists like Gloria Gaynor, Dire Straits, Coolio, 2Pac, No Doubt, Eminem, but there was always one thing bigger than the desire to make music, namely his love for beautiful sportcars. Now, Michael Blakey is not only a producer that earned several gold and platinum records, but also a great car collector. In fact he even was the co-owner of Maserati's UK Arm.
In case you ever wondered who’s behind the people we see daily on TV or hear on the radio, we think we found the answer. The 55-year old London-born producer is currently living the L.A. dream, but he did start from the bottom. Even though he was even the drummer and composer for the 1990s rock band Tidal Force, he became rich by producing music.

The man behind Shaft’s soundtrack

In 1978, while just 19 years of age, Blakey became resident producer at Hansa Studios in Berlin, Germany. He started working with artists like Boney M and Julio Iglesias. It was also then when Blakey started producing singles and LPs for various European musical acts. Later own he managed to become the chief of A&R for Atico Records, in New York, from 1991 to 1994. He founded three other music production and promotional companies.

Apart from producing music, Blakey worked on several feature motion picture soundtracks, including the original ones for Disney’s “Cinderella II: Dreams Come True”, “Jackass: The Movie” and “Shaft”.

He bought Maserati

It wasn’t only about music with this fellow since he even tried to get inside the auto industry. In September 1987, Blakey and three key British investors, John Bogg, David Osbourne and importer Colin Hayes, purchased the luxury auto maker Maserati U.K. LTd. Their dream didn’t last for long, as it was sold to the Chrysler Corporation less than two years later.

And his enthusiasm for luxurious and performing cars has never left the L.A. producer who is now driving some of the best cars in the industry. For some reason we stumbled upon his Instagram account and we have to say, the man knows about his cars. The most recent acquisition is a beautiful Mercedes-Benz SLR, he bought finished in dark green.

Michael got it straight to the auto shop for some proper improvements. We’re talking red chrome Forgiato wheels and a shiny red wrap, among some other features. In fact the car looks that good folks at Forgiato asked him if they could show it off at their booth in this year’s SEMA show.
