"You know what? I've seen standard Veyrons before, let's build a World Record Edition, shall we?" - this is the kind of (translated) conversation we imagine when thinking about the shop that built the Bugatti wannabe in the image above.
And if you think the rear view of the contraption is bad, you should check out the front view below, which is simply in another league altogether (we must thank Reddit for bringing the images to our attention).
As the plates on the car tell us, this is a Russian project. Given the amount of builds coming from the country, we can't say we're surprised. While we're at it, we have to explain we're glad not everybody in Russia wants to drive fake Veyrons. For instance, the country's drag racing scene is pretty strong, with the times achieved by the GT-Rs, for instance, coming close to the podium-holding Nissan GT-Rs the US holds. But enough about the quarter mile performers, it's time to talk shame now.
Returning to the fake Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport World Record Edition we have here, we're not even sure if this car can hit half the top speed that gave the original its designation. As those of you who follow the hypercar world know, the Bugatti performer managed to climb as high as 268 mph (431 km/h) back in 2010.
For one thing, this SS wannabe is based on a Mercury Cougar and not the kind that has to do with the muscle culture. While the late 90s Cougar was marketed as a Ford in Europe, Russia shared the US' Mercury badge.
Among others, this means we're dealing with a truly unique Veyron, since this platform comes in front-wheel-drive form. Since Ettore Bugatti's early days saw tons of efforts being made to pursue his all-wheel-drive ambitions, this only makes the replica in question even more of a failure.
