Together with the 24,497 ProMaster units called in over non-compliant head restraints, Ram is also recalling a few thousand examples of the Ram C/V Tradesman for an uncommon software glitch.
Documents submitted by the Chrysler Group to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration inform that an estimated 22,115 units of the small cargo van are to visit dealer service departments to fix a minor fault with the airbag software.
Affected owners are urged to contact the Chrysler customer information center (1 - 800 - 853 - 1403) as soon as possible because this apparently minor fault may adversely affect sensors that control side-curtain and thorax airbags, causing inadvertent deployment.
2013 to 2015 model year Ram C/V Tradesman small cargo vans that are prone to suffer from the glitch were configured with the exclusion of rear audio and climate control parts adjacent to those sensors.
Apparently some gaps are believed to generate a resonance that's amplified by loaded roof racks and rough-road inputs, thus disrupting sensor operation.
Thankfully, the Chrysler Group isn't aware of crashes or injuries related to this defect. The fix is represented by a simple reflash of the Occupant Restraint Control (ORC) module. Approximately 18,245 units of the defective C/V Tradesman vans are believed to be in the U.S., while 3,870 are in Canada.
