Loosely based on the Freelander 2’s Ford EUCD platform, the Range Rover Evoque is the model that put the Tata-owned automaker back in the game for two main reasons: competitive pricing, as well as striking interior and exterior styling. In addition to this, the compact luxury crossover is set to receive a three-door rag top cabriolet model in the near future.
Some call it a fashion statement or an over the top Land Rover, but the fact is the Evoque is a fine automobile for the ultra packed and rather competitive compact luxury crossover segment. With the right color combinations, all-wheel drive capability and the punchy, top-of-the-range 190 PS / 420 Nm diesel, the Evoque is even better to behold.
But there’s one thing that really got on my nerves in recent months, namely Range Rover’s idea of a special edition model. The final piece of the so-called “Inspired by Britain” family of limited-run Evoque models is dubbed the NW8. First of all, why NW8? The postcode that’s been the center of London’s creative scene since the mid-1960s has virtually nothing to do with a luxury crossover SUV.
Only available in Fuji White and a roof finished in Firenze Red, the Range Rover Evoque SW8 also boasts with matching red Range Rover lettering up front and similarly matching side mirror caps. As for the inside, I don’t have anything to bicker about the Taurus perforated leather seats or the neat-looking Anodised Red rotary gear selector. Just don’t go for the manual box ‘cos that gear shifter knob is downright awful. Oh, and if you’re in the market for an NW8, better hurry because "exclusivity is guaranteed" with only 1,000 units, although we wouldn't call a simple color combo as exclusive.

The NW8 postcode area encompasses the Abbey Road thoroughfare
This is a place that was relevant in 1969 thanks to The Beatles’ Abbey Road album cover. Dubbing a special edition Evoque NW8 is really tacky, more so when you consider there’s not a single Union Jack featured inside or out although this limited-run model is part of the “Inspired by Britain” collection of special edition Evoques. It’s pointless and the color combinations look Chelsea tractor-grade chintzy too.Only available in Fuji White and a roof finished in Firenze Red, the Range Rover Evoque SW8 also boasts with matching red Range Rover lettering up front and similarly matching side mirror caps.
