Rocket Skates Electric Motorized Roller Blades Can Now Be Purchased Online, Finally

When we heard about these puppies in July last year the first thing that popped into our heads was the Japanese Manga Air Gear. Similar to the Air Treks the Japanese characters were using, the Rocket Skates won’t turn you into a futuristic Speedy Gonzalez quite yet, but they will propel you to up to 12mph (19 km/h). Best part? Now you can find them online at Hammacher Schlemmer shop.

Two sets of step-in footplates secure most types of footwear with strap bindings similar to those on snowboard boots, accommodating small and large feet. The maximum weight the red evil machines support is 275 lbs (124kg). Each skate’s twin 6 inches diameter wheels has a 50-watt motor integrated into its fiber-reinforced nylon frame.

That’s where the power comes from and to use it you simply tilt forward on the toes to accelerate. Tilting back on the heel gently brakes. The footplates also pivot down, this way the fellow wearing it is able to put his foot in contact with the ground for walking or going upstairs.

Two removable lithium-ion batteries (one for each leg) provide enough electric-juice to power the skates for up to one hour and a half, which is a range of about 10 miles.

With a two-hour recharge time, the Rocket Skates are quite ideal for young students to travel with around the campus, but can be used by basically anybody eager to commute in a cool and green way. The red beasts fit men’s shoe sized 6 1/2 + and women’s 6+ and you’re going to have to be at least 16 to get a pair for yourself. But for $700, we believe these roller blades are probably the coolest toys you get on the market.
