The German auto tuners Startech have their hands full this year. Not only do they now play with Bentleys and other goodies, but the Land Rover Discover Sport is also right up their alley.
Considering the Discovery Sport competes for the same customers as popular SUVs like the BMW X3 and Audi Q5, demand for tuning goods is going to be huge. So what are Startech going to offer? Pretty much everything, by the looks of it.
First of all, we have to applaud them for the choice of color. Gray and black make a strong statement that's not too over-the-top. The front fascia suffered most of the changes and is sportier as a result. A deeper chin convinces everybody that this is a fast SUV without ruining the off-road prowess.
We also notice a new bumper, side skirts, read diffuser and trunk lid spoiler. Extra LEDs have also been added to spice things up, and the exhaust system sits neatly within the bumper now.
Other sporty additions include a suspension kit that slams the Disco' closer to the black 22-inch wheels. Until the Ingenium engines are ready for mass production, Startech has had to play with the older 2.2-liter turbodiesel.
Using the PowerXtra SD22 package, they have increased the output to 210 hp and 339 lb-ft of torque. That's not going to be enough to race the SQ5, X5 M50d and other diesel monsters, but it's a start.
Startech's parent company, Brabus, has done nothing but impress us with its Frankfurt Motor Show 2015 lineup. It was nearly as bit as that of Mercedes-Benz and included everything from sportscars to immensely powerful SUVs.
One great example of this is their 850 horsepower Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 Coupe. Not only is it extremely sexy, but the power delivery outclasses even the Bentayga. However, the real highlight was the Tesla Model S, which received a luxury interior Ellon Musk can only dream about.
