Disturbing news arrive from the Italian region of Bergamo, also referred to as the "enduro heaven" in the two-wheeled world. It looks like the insane and murderous practice of installing steel cables across paths used by motorcycle riders has returned. Such steel cables have claimed at least four lives since 2007.
Riders in the area have reported finding steel cables barring the road again. The President of the Italian Motorcycling Federation, Paolo Sesti says that such practices are intolerable and that he and his organization will appeal to local and national authorities to track down those responsible for the installation of the cables.
It doesn't take a safety specialist to figure out how dangerous these cables are to motorcycle and even mountain bike riders venturing into the wild. He adds that he was lucky to spot the cables at a low speed.
At least four riders have been killed in accidents caused by steel cables, including a 19-year-old individual who died in Frosolone (Isernia), with a 48-year-old becoming the victim of such irresponsible installations back in 2007. Police investigations in this case led to a local farmer.
Consonni not only decided to remove the cables, but also posted the video online and reported his findings to the Carabinieri (Italian police).
Honestly, it's hard to fathom what did the idiots who installed these cables (one of them had three wires) in the way of riders. Are these guys SO STUPID as to ignore the fact that the cables can kill riders?
