Suzuki GSX-RR Documentary Tells More about the New MotoGP Story

Suzuki reveals more high-performance prototype goodies from the MotoGP paddock, as a new documentary on the development of the new GSX-RR machine has just been launched. The under-8-minute-long video shows the becoming of the former XRH-1 prototype and its transformation into the GSX-RR official MotoGP machine, followed by the first official outings in the race-ready livery.

Three years after their retirement from the premier class, the house of Hamamatsu is back with a completely new bike and the promise of a bang, too. In their search of MotoGP glory, Suzuki abandoned the old V4 architecture and went for an in-line 4 engine which also comes with high expectations.

A new bike, a new team, and two new riders

Suzuki has thoroughly rethought their approach to a new entry in the premier class racing, and has started things from scrap. The bike is new, the team is new, with Davide Brivio as head of the MotoGP department, and even the riders are new. While many have seen long-time test rider Randy De Puniet as one sure-to-be contracted riders, Hamamatsu preferred to pick two young guns.

The youngest factory rider is Maverick Vinales, and comes from Moto2, where he used to win races in 2014. The highest hopes lay with Aleix Espargaro, a rider who has beaten Yamaha satellites with his Open Class bike last year. At the same time, Aleix Espargaro is the authoritative CRT/Open Class Champion for the last three years and it is expected that he delivers highly-competitive riding aboard a factory bike.

Suzuki’s wildcard appearance at Valencia in late 2014 ended abruptly with Randy De Puniet forced to retire with technical problems. However, the post-race test and the first official pre-season outing ahead of the 2015 championship found Vinales and Espargaro pleased with the GSX-RR and looking forward to improving the bike for the upcoming tests in Sepang.

And as a good measure of what Aleix Espargaro could do with the GSX, he has already improved De Puniet’s lap times at Valencia significantly. Enjoy the video below and prepare for more MotoGP treats from Hamamatsu before the next test at Sepang.
