This just in from the Ford Motor Company - two safety recalls have been issued by the company, totaling 220,586 vehicles. Despite the large pool of affected cars, no accidents or injuries have been attributed to either of the two campaigns.
Starting with the little one, FoMoCo calls back a mere 16,091 examples of the 2014 Ford Transit Connect. According to the manufacturer, these vehicles may suffer from a potential issue with safety belt fasteners that may not have been tightened properly. Fasteners that don’t meet installation torque specifications may loosen over time, which may cause them not to function well, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.
Affected vehicles included in this recall operation comprise of certain 2014 Ford Transit Connect vans built from November 6, 2013 to September 20, 2014 at the Valencia Assembly Plant. All vans are still located in the United States of America. A statement from Ford reads that dealerships will replace and tighten the safety belt fasteners and cargo tie-downs in the cargo area free of charge.
Now for the big one - 204,495 examples of certain 2010 - 2013 Ford Taurus vehicles (built from December 1, 2009 to July 31, 2010 and February 1, 2011 to November 30, 2012 at the Chicago Assembly Plant), 2010 - 2013 Ford Police Interceptor sedans (built December 1, 2009 to July 31, 2010 and February 1, 2011 to Nov. 30, 2012) and certain 2010 - 2013 Lincoln MKS vehicles built from (June 2, 2011 to October 31, 2011) are the subject of this operation.
These cars are prone to develop an issue with the spring that controls the interior door handles. If the spring is unseated, the door may become unlatched in a side-impact accident, a defect that increases the risk of injury in such a scenario. 194,889 of those vehicles were sold in the US and federalized territories, some 9,948 in Canada and 108 in Mexico. Dealers will repair or replace the door handles if necessary.
