As we’re getting ready for this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show that will kick off in less than two weeks from now, most manufacturers are starting to let us know what they will be unveiling. The most recent addition to the ever so impressive line-up is the SEAT Ibiza CUPRA facelift.
Unlike on other occasions, when a car’s facelift would be limited to its design and tech areas, SEAT decided to give the new Ibiza a fresh 1.8-liter 4-cylinder TSI engine under the bonnet. This comes following Volkswagen’s decision to drop the 1.4-liter TSI units in favor of bigger 1.8-liter ones.

The output has gone up too, from 180 HP and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) to 192 HP and 320 Nm (236 lb-ft) of torque. With the new specs, the refreshed Ibiza Cupra will go from zero to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 6.7 seconds which is a 0.3-second improvement over the old model.

Other interesting add-ons include a new XDS electronic differential that is supposed to make sure that going around corners is done a lot more efficiently and without drama. Torque steer and understeer should be taken care of by a considerable amount.

Cupra Drive comes as standard now and will allow prospective drivers to choose their preferred driving mode, adjusting the steering, suspension and throttle response. Considering the car, it has to go up against, namely the Ford Fiesta ST and the Volkswagen Polo GTI, the Seat Ibiza Cupra will need every bit of help it can get to keep up.

On the design side of things, most of the changes took place inside the cabin, with a new steering wheel, infotainment system and Android/Apple Auto support available. On the outside, the look was kept basically intact with 17” wheels still available as well as bi-xenon headlights with those beautiful daytime running lights LEDs still there.

We’ll get to see this car in the metal in a few days as the Frankfurt Motor Show will be opening its doors and sales should begin before the end of the year.
