Anybody whose driven a modern Prancing Horse in the wet knows that, no matter how good the E-Diff hardware and the F1-Trac electronic aid are, going full throttle in such conditions is an otherworldly experience. Well, we're here to dial things up and show you what happens when a 488 GTE racecar meets a track that's soaking wet.
The footage below takes us inside the 488 GTE run by Scuderia Corsa's Alessandro Pier Guidi. The driver is seen wrestling the racecar during the qualifying session for the Rolex 24 at Daytona.

The Florida race is the first major racing event of the year, kicking off the 2016 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, which, among others, sees the new Ford GT racecar entering service.

The vicious weather caused a bit of chaos during qualifying (for instance, this led to a less than impressive debut for the GT), with the race scheduled to start on Saturday at 2:40 PM Eastern Time.

Returning to the Ferrari we're here for, this is one of the two racing incarnations of the twin-turbo 488 that debuted back in November last year.

We'll remind you the GTE category has replaced the GT2 class, while also covering for the late GT1 class. Joining the 488 GTE in endurance racing adventures such as this one is the lower-tier 488 GT3, but that's another story for another time.

For now, we're inviting you to check out Alessandro demonstrating why the racecar's steering wheel has its particular shape, which is obviously associated with the short steering setup typical for such racing machines.

P.S.: Don't try to seek the forced-fed V8s voice. It's difficult to hear that over the aural fuss of the straight-cut gears of the racecar. This is just one of the many trade-offs motorsport vehicles have to face compared to the supercars we are allowed to drive on the street.
