Spyker goes a long way back. Founded in 1880, defunct in 1926, then resurrected in 1999, Spyker is a boutique automaker from The Netherlands with the coolest motto of all car-making companies.
“Nulla tenaci invia est via”is the Latin for “For the tenacious, no road is impassable.” Be that as it may, the latest product of the brand can’t hold a candle to all the other high-performance cars in production nowadays. It is called the C8 Preliator, it has 518 horsepower and 443 lb-ft (600 Nm) of torque, and it costs $354,990 for the 6-speed Getrag manual transmission. Yes, the Shelby GT350 and Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 are more powerful and cheaper than it.

But then again, muscle cars don’t fit in with supercars such as the Spyker C8 Preliator. These said, how does it compare against mainstream supercars such as the Ferrari 488 GTB and the Lamborghini Huracan LP 610-4? As you may have suspected, the Spyker is more expensive than either of the Italians, even though it doesn’t have the bragging rights to justify its price.

If you want the 6-speed ZF automatic, then add $8,000 to the starting price of the Spyker C8 Preliator. Whichever transmission you choose, you will be able to enjoy what is probably the best thing about a Spyker - the trademark exposed gear change mechanism. Only 50 units of the C8 Preliator will ever be made. If you fancy a five-piece Louis Vuitton Luggage set, Spyker can do that for you provided that you pay an obscene amount of green dollar bills.

Although it is a Dutch creation, production of the Spyker C8 Preliator will be handled by United Kingdom-based CPP Metalcraft. The mid-mounted, force-fed 4.2-liter V8 engine, on the other hand, comes from Audi. Later this year, Spyker hopes to start production of the B6 Venator, a model that will be priced more sensibly than the big-ticket C8 Preliator.
