The prototype is wearing only minimal camouflage, so we can see pretty much everything. The design is identical to the Superb sedan right up to the B pillars, where we see taller rear door glass, more quarter glass, a large tailgate and an integrated spoiler.

Based on the same MQB platform as the Passat, the Superb Combi, also sold as the Superb Estate in some markets, will be lighter on its feet. The engine range should include about 7 turbocharged units with outputs ranging from 120 PS to 280 PS.

All the engines except for a couple of entry-level ones will be available with DSG gearboxes and the high-end model with a 280 hp 2.0 TSI engine will have it as standard. In that situation, the Superb Combi should be able to reach 100 km/h in only 6.4 seconds. We also expect a new GreenLine model to be made available, emitting just under 100 grams per kilometer.

Front-wheel drive will be standard, while a Haldex 5 clutch system will give 4x4 models power for the rear wheels as well. In about year's time, there should also be a new Scout model on the market, fitted with extra body cladding and specially tuned suspension.

So why should you wait until around October 2015 for the new Superb Scout and not buy a Passat instead? For starters, it will come with 29 ‘Simply Clever’ features typical to the Skoda brand, including a rear seat tablet holder (uuu!), an LED flashlight (aaa!) and an umbrella in each of the front doors (ooo!). The option on the Superb will also be cheaper to buy than on a Volkswagen and the cargo space will be much bigger. Expect around 700 liters without the rear seats folded, which is frankly absurdly big.

Editor's note: It might look boring in these spy videos, but in lime green with black wheels, that might be a spectacular family car for the masses.
