With only one week left until summer kicks in - at least in the calendar - smart is busy testing the all-new smart fortwo cabrio, which finally lets its soft top down for us.
We've been receiving spyshots from our carparazzi for some time now, and this is the third batch of pictures showing a smart fortwo cabrio test mule doing its thing. However, it's the first time the city car allows us to see it with the top down, and we'll take that anytime.

The camouflage disappeared a long time ago from the smart fortwo cabrio's petite body, which makes us believe an official launch is just a couple of months away, maybe waiting for the 2015 IAA to begin in Frankfurt.

Until then, here's what we know about the new smart fortwo cabrio. The smallest convertible in the world is still 99 percent the same as its hardtop brother, but it will be rewarded with a fresh batch of funky paint choices and color accents.

Regarding the under-the-hood treatments, the smart fortwo cabrio will draw its energy from a 60 and 71 HP 1.0-liter mill or a 91 HP 0.9-liter Renault-sourced engine. To manage these pocket resources, smart offers a five-speed manual gearbox or an optional Getrag-developed 6-speed twin-clutch compact-sized transmission.

In Germany, the smart fortwo will be available for around 11,000 euros ($12,000, at current exchange rates), but hardcore smart lovers will no doubt want the Brabus Tailor program that will provide an edge in terms of performance and overall interior finish. Let's just hope they get as much power as possible from those tiny engines.
