Hyundai Europe is busy testing a new engine variation for the freshly revealed Hyundai i20, just like they did with the i30 Turbo.
Our carparazzi spotted a peculiar prototype being put through its paces by Hyundai in Europe, and judging by the camouflage choice and placement, we might be looking at a potential Hyundai i20 Turbo.
It's not just that making us throw in such a statement, but also the black cover over the front trying to mask the changed front end and a lower lip.
We can't be talking about a facelift here because the i20 is still fresh as a daisy on the market, so what could it be?
Well, it's hard to say but if our carparazzi are right and this is the Hyundai i20 Turbo, it means we're also looking at a rival for the Volkswagen Polo GTI and Ford Fiesta ST.
We're saying this because Hyundai do have the expertise and means necessary for such a model. Their 1.6-liter turbo plant with all sorts of outputs comes to our mind, mated to one of the brand's twin-clutch transmissions, which will equip the upcoming Veloster Turbo shortly.
Last year in December, we saw a rendering hinting at a potential Hyundai i20 Turbo model coming from Theophilus Chin, but his version had only two doors, while the test mule hatchback comes in a four-door config.
Maybe Hyundai is preparing something for the Frankfurt Motor Show 2015, but at this point all we can do is keep our antennas up for official info.
