Two Mercedes-AMG GT3s Will Race in the US Thanks to Weistec Engineering

Among the Mercedes-Benz and especially Mercedes-AMG fans, Weistec is a name that requires no further introduction. It is a one-brand-only ultra-high performance parts manufacturer that's responsible for what made a lot of Mercedes-AMG cars very, very fast.

We're talking about the kind of cars we usually see on the drag strips dueling with modified Porsches, Corvettes and Lamborghinis. These are serious performance machines built with only one purpose in mind: to go as fast as possible.

The Orange County based company has just announced it will be fielding a pair of Mercedes-AMG GT3 cars for the 2016 season of the Pirelli World Challenge series.

At Weistec we develop performance in every part and our innovations not only prove themselves in a laboratory, but on the race track as well,” said Michael Weiss, Weistec’s technical director. “Weistec has already set numerous world records utilizing the same 6.3-liter engine that propels the new GT3 car and we are excited to bring our expertise to the Pirelli World Challenge. Our passion for innovation is as strong as our customers’ desire for the finest in vehicle performance.

In other words, this is Weistec's chance of putting their money where their mouth is. They've been developing ultra-high performance parts for Mercedes-AMG models for quite some time, and now it's their turn to test them on the track during official endurance races.

Weistec is citing its deep understanding of the car's powertrain as one of its main advantages in the world of demanding endurance racing, and since the new GT3 uses the same 6.3-liter naturally aspirated V8 that came in the SLS AMG GT3 car as well, you could say their expertise is vast.

There is no other info on their involvement in the Pirelli World Challenge apart from the fact two AMG GT3s will take part, and Weistec is expected to announce the drivers lineup in the following months. But the most important thing (especially for Mercedes-AMG's sales) is that the American public will get to see the car in action first-hand.
