It looks like thieves in Germany simply couldn’t wait for Volkswagen to commence deliveries for the new Passat and decided to take matters into their own hands. As a result, not one, but two examples of the sedan have been stolen from the Volkswagen Emden factory in Germany.
A report coming from the Emden Police Department, cited by the local media, shows the story started on October 3, when a burglar grabbed the keys to a Passat B8, driving it straight out the factory’s gate. The Black sedan was found abandoned in the city three days later. The VW badge was missing and there were signs of a crash.

As for the second incident, this took place on October 14th, with an unidentified man pulling a similar stunt. A pair of security guards tried to apprehend the thief, but failed to do so. The men were unarmed and all they could do was to leap onto the side of the road as the burglar was determined to succeed.

In fact, the man was so desperate to get away from the grand theft auto scene that he even ran the Passat through a radar trap. Perhaps he though the lack of a number plate would make such a move irrelevant for the authorities. Nonetheless, as a result, police now have a photo of the burglar.

What happens next

Besides, Germany is a country where the citizen reporting system works well, which means that if the man didn’t have a plan for covering up the car before taking it away, the chances of him getting caught are rather high. After all, the B8 Passat isn’t out on the road yet, so if a public announcement is made, it’s not too difficult to spot the stolen car. The authorities don’t appear to have released a follow-up report, so perhaps the man had already been caught.

We are expecting the company to increase its security level after these incidents.
