Someone named Tim spotted a peculiar car in Munich. Upon closer inspection, he uncovered a Zinoro 1E. Luckily, the Bimmertoday reader snapped a few shots of the car.
If you’re like most people, you probably didn’t know what a Zinoro 1E was, so it’s time for a quick info session.
The Zinoro 1E is an electric vehicle built on the platform of the first-generation BMW X1, codenamed E84. The vehicle was developed by Brilliance, BMW’s Chinese partner for over a decade. What’s unusual about this car is the fact that it’s being tested in Germany. As the photos show, the car has a Munich registration plate and even features a sticker on the back that states that it’s an electric vehicle prototype.
The parking lot where the car was spotted is unspecified, but we wouldn’t be too surprised if it were near the famous BMW Welt, the brand’s museum in Munich, located in front of their famous “Four-Cylinder” building. This time, the German name sounds better: “Vierzylinder.”
Back to the car, the prototype is made to develop a future electric car for the Chinese market, not for Europe. As you already know, BMW already has an electric division that also makes hybrids. We’re speaking of the BMW i8 and i3, the latter being offered in an all-electric version as well as in a range extended plug-in hybrid version.
The Zinoro brand was founded in 2013 and is called ZhiNou in its domestic territory. However, in international transactions, the company goes by the name Zinoro. Thanks to using already-developed components, the vehicles made for this brand will have a lower development and production cost.
According to Bimmertoday, the Zinoro 1E features the interior and most of the components of the first-gen BMW X1, while the electric powertrain comes from the BMW ActivE, an electric version of the E82-generation BMW 1 Series Coupe. For now, there's no word on introducing this car in other countries outside China.
