The License Plate Stash Box - Would You Leave Your Papers There?

Twisted Throttle has come up with a nice idea for storing your papers during a motorcycle ride. The License Plate Stash Box may be a really neat add-on to your bike in case the lock is really that good, but in case it will open, you’re screwed, especially if nobody sees your papers flying away behind you… and you get pulled over say, halfway your day’s journey.

The Stash Box comes with several attributes which are undeniably cool. First of all, it’s the concealed position of the box, smartly positioned right behind the license plate holder. If anything, it almost spells hiding things in plain sight, in case you want to hide something, that is.

The thin profile of the box will most likely pass unnoticed, especially as it will get just as dirty as the rear fender and plate, and we believe that few thieves or cops would check to see if there’s anything beneath the mud. The lock might provide a clue about the hidden compartment, so maybe the future designs will solve this matter, too.

The second aspect we liked about the Stash Box is that it will not impact the styling of the bike. Also, this small box looks like an easy add-on for a lot of motorcycles, and this only makes it more versatile. Of course, it will not be as inconspicuous on certain motorcycles, but on most of them, it will just do fine.

How about water, dirt and stones?

If we admit that the lock will hold a day’s ride on less-than-ideal roads, the weather proofing comes next. The Stash Box has a rubber O-ring seal customers must install inside and it should provide protection from dirt and water. However, a retention pouch is also provided, helping keeping your papers in place. We’d also throw in a ziplock bag just to stay on the safe side.

The functionality of the Stash Box is a matter of individual appreciation. Riders who spend a lot of time on gravel may not feel that secure with all the rocks flying under their rear wheel, but others might find it as a most suitable accessory for their bikes. We’ll stick with the ziplock bags forgotten in a pocket, and remembered each time clouds stain the horizon. With papers and phones inside, let it rain, let it rain, let it rain…

The Twisted Throttle Stash Box can be had for $20 (US price, equivalent of €16) which is not a fortune, so maybe it’s worth a try.
