When Ryan Friedlinghaus founded the Burbank, California-based West Coast Customs auto shop the practice of autotuning was still quite obscure. With the years passing by, celebrities having their cars customized here and MTV’s four season Pimp My Ride show going on, things exploded. What if we were to tell you a similar television series is in the making in the UK, and it might prove even better than this one?
We’re not sure if you heard, but there’s a 30,000-square meter (322,917-square feet) custom shop about to open in London, UK. It’s called Fast Factory and word in the industry is they're going big. The auto shop is the brainchild of Alex and Trevor, two friends with a great passion for cars. Alex has been in the customization industry for 35 years while Trevor is one of the original crew members of West Coast Customs.

Why are we talking about their shop? Well, we recently met Trevor in Stockholm during Gumball 3000. It turns out their plan is going quite well, as they recently signed a contract with Discovery Channel. Trevor told us the show will soon kick off. The huge shop in London is almost ready with last-minute preparations underway.

As opposed to MTV’s Pimp My Ride, Trevor told us these TV series are going to be a bit different, especially that the shop’s customers will most likely be paying for their cars. The accent will be on the custom jobs themselves, rather than on the celebrity factor.

Considering that West Coast Customs now has facilities open in Dubai, Mexico, Germany, Malaysia, Russia, and Japan it’s safe to say it’s one of the biggest businesses out there. A television show that would broadcast something similar in London could sure be a game changer for the British car customization market, a business that has been steadily growing over the last years.
