They say that birds of a feather flock together, and this is true in 99% of the cases, if not even more. However, watching stupid crashes like this one makes me wonder whether it’s all really worth flocking together with people whose silly actions deliver serious consequences for innocent fellows.
Some might say that the rest of the riders in the pack are not exactly innocent… because they rode with people who do stupid things. Well, this is true, indeed but it’s a bit too far a stretch to say they have a blame in this.
What CAN be blamed is the silly decision to ride in a rather tight formation knowing that someone in the front will perform some dubious bike stunts. The simple fact of knowing this should have made the rest of the riders keep their distance to avoid the very crash which occurred after the failed wheelie.
The loose, staggered formation is common sense for people riding in a group… or is it? It looks like riders who think that group stunts of public roads are a cool and smart thing don’t take such precautions too seriously.
We’ve all seen how bad things can go in such scenarios, even without one of the riders performing stunts. At times, less skilled or less confident riders would crash for much more insignificant reasons and put other companions in danger, so riding in formation IS a thing you want to be well-accustomed to.
If you watch closely around 2:25 you can also see another rider performing an involuntary front flip. Apparently it’s the unlucky guy which can be seen lying in pain on the ground later on. And when the master of disaster walks into the picture with his fancy pink shoes and without major injuries, things do get a bit frustrating, yes.
