Famous stand-up comedian Tracy Morgan is still recovering from last year’s crash which left him with broken bones and “a traumatic brain injury” according to his lawyer. Even though he couldn’t attend last month’s 40th anniversary show of Saturday Night Live, the trial against Wal-Mart seems to be getting closer to an end, as court paper shows that the children of comedian James McNair – who was killed in the crash – are getting a $10 million settlement from Wal-Mart.
The famous comedian and his team were riding along a limo bus last June when a Wal-Mart truck crashed the rear of the vehicle. Most of the passengers ended up injured in hospital, including the comedian who spend several weeks under medical care and is still recovering today. What is worse, Tracy’s long time friend and mentor comedian Hame McNairl passed away shortly after the accident that occurred on the New Jersey Turnpike.
The giant retailer was obviously sued by the deceased’s family and it appears now that they have closed a settlement.
According to Business Insider, 26-year old Jamel McNair and his sister, 19-year old Denita are putting part of the payment toward annuities that will pay them ever-increasing monthly amounts, starting at $3,000, for the rest of their lives. The $10 million settlement was disclosed in documents filed in Surrogate’s Court in New York’s Westchester County, where the regretted comedian lived.
Wal-Mart is far from being over this tragic event, since Morgan and two others injured in the crash also sued the retailer. NTSB’s preliminary reports show that the truck driver had been driving for almost 10 hours and was going 65 mph in a 45-mph area. This will most likely not help the company that is already facing a lot of bad publicity ever since the accident happened.
