Triumph Rumored to Massively Revamp the Speed Triple

It looks like the rumor mill is running just perfectly in the winter, and here’s the latest buzz on the wire. Triumph is said to be working on a massive set of upgrades for their Speed Triple naked flagship. It’s been some time since the Speed Triple has received such an important makeover, and we can hope the new machine will retain its uniqueness while becoming a more worthy, modern-specced competitor in the naked segment.

At the same time, people who are closer to the British bike industry are also whispering about a potential desire to sack the Sprint GT, the sport-touring, full-faired model based on the 1050 triple-cylinder engine of the Speed triple.

Triumph is said to not join the bigger displacement game

A brand with strong adherence to tradition, Triumph is rumored to maintain the 1050cc displacement of this Triple, even though the Brits will definitely be looking for ways to increase the max power figures. So far, the 133 hp Speed Triple is looked at as a rather moderate-power liter-class machine, especially when compared to the competition.

Still, we must not forget the fact that the Speed Triple is not a engineered as high-performance superbike, so comparing it to similar cc machinery may not be the fairest of things. Anyway, if Triumph can add several horsies to the Speed Triple and can improve the current 111 Nm (81.8 lb-ft) at 7,750 rpm torque, we’re positive the customers will welcome the move quite warmly.

Triumph is rumored to even envisage a series of massive upgrades in the chassis department, chasing to shave some weight off the Speed Triple and contributing to better acceleration and more nimble steering.

Electronic gadgetry expected

The new generation of Speed Triple bikes is also said to be equipped with modern electronics which would reduce the current gap between it and the new machines from say, BMW.

This means we might get to see the Speed Triple rolling with traction control and multiple engine modes, possibly with keyless ignition and more, visordown says. Frankly, if triumph is planning a new generation of Speed Triple machines, maybe they should also consider getting some semi-active suspensions, as well, at least as an item on the options list. Such technology becomes more popular with each year, and it looks like it may become the new standard in the not-so-distant future.

Tiger Sport is also rumored to receive the same upgrades, give or take. So far we bet people are more concerned with Christmas plans now than figuring out how the new bikes will be, and frankly so are we. However, we know the rumor mill never stops so we’ll delve into this matter early in 2015.
