It almost feels like yesterday when we first saw the R8. It came out 8 years ago in 2006, when it was only available as a coupe with the 420 hp 4.2-liter V8 plucked from the RS4. Since then, quattro has added a Lambo V10, launched racing versions, special editions and, of course, a Spyder model.
The dusk is about to set on this generation of R8, its replacement being expected to debut early next year. Yet customers from across the world are still ordering them, knowing they hold decent value.

This one is among the last truly special R8s that will be made. It's a V10 plus model that's been finished in the famous Vegas Yellow color and fitted with about €20,000 worth of carbon fiber inserts from the Audi Exclusive catalog – engine bay covers, side air blades, front spoiler and door scuff plates, to name but a few.

The interior is just as special and kind of reminds us of the crazy stuff Porsche customers are ordering. The air vents, seat backs and certain inserts for the doors and tunnel are now gloss yellow. The roof is done in alcantara with a quilted effect stitched into it.

Unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, the R8 V10 plus costs €175,500 as standard. It's pushed along by a 550 horsepower version of the 5.2 FSI V10 and gets LED headlights, navigation system plus and the Bang & Olufsen Sound System. This particular model also has the carbon ceramic brake package and gloss black wheels.

All in all, we're looking at one of the few Audis in the world that are worth over €200,000 and aren't as discrete as the ticking of a watch.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
