Did you think Nissan only came up with half their homework for Shanghai? If the answer is yes, guess again because we found the Venucia VOW Concept, and it has peculiarity written all over it.
First, you need to know that Venucia is a local brand of Dongfeng Nissan Passenger Vehicle Company, Nissan's joint venture in China. And as any auto brand, they want a place of their own in the vast car world.
For that to happen, you need a car, or at least some kind of prototype to showcase your intentions. So this is Venucia VOW - with VOW standing for "Venucia Over Wonder" - making a debut at Auto Shanghai 2015.
Before I go on and say that in the metal, it only looks like a more aggressive, possibly more hi-tech-ish, raised Nissan Lannia, here's what Nissan has to say about the study. Oh, and from some angles, that rear end is pretty close to what BMW X4's designers had in mind for the Bavarian's styling.
“With the VOW Concept, Venucia is going directly to the young generations and listening to what they have to say about their futures, their hopes and what inspires them. We are determined to bring forward a young and fresh brand that continues to challenge the status quo,” said Zhou Xianpeng, DFL-PV deputy managing director.
Well, well, if it isn't exactly the same thing Nissan officials had to say when Lannia was introduced to the public like, a few hours ago. But there's more eccentricity coming your way because VOW is no ordinary small SUV concept.
The crossover's shape and color choice were inspired by Bolivia’s Salar de Uyuni, a high plateau near the crest of the Andes Mountains with captive fresh and saltwater lakes and the world’s largest salt flat. So I guess, Bonneville was taken or something, right?
Anyway, that's about all we get so far in terms of info about the concept. I'd truly like to say that it could spawn a hybrid, electric, or hydrogen-powered production model since those side body panels hint at the Toyota Mirai and connecting the car to Venucia's e30 Leaf-inspired EV.
