Viper Price Drops, Sales Hike Dramatically

It appears that Dodge's tactic of slashing $15,000 off the sticker price of the Viper sport car paid off with a sizable bang. Since the $15k slash at the beginning of September through the end of the month, the poster favourite nameplate's sales increased considerably.

To put that growth into numbers, that would be an increase of 184 percent. More specifically, 108 of them poisonous V10-powered snakes were moved, which is quite a difference compared to the 38 cars sold in August. In addition to that, 1,000+ owners of the 2013 and 2014 MY Viper were offered coupons that slashed a further $15,000 off the dumping price.

But the Viper's revival doesn't end here. Some 200 orders were placed for the 2015 Dodge Viper SRT, which boasts with 5 horsepower more over the 2014 Viper and the same 600 lb-ft (813 Nm) as before. It's all nice and jolly up to this point, but there's a hidden element lurking far in the background of this story.

The 2016 Viper ACR might bring new life to this magnificient beast, but...

...some enthusiasts of the breed may remember that since April 14th, the Viper plant operated for just 10 days due to the low demand the nameplate was hit by this year. However, the flip side is represented by a recent announcement according to which Conner Avenue Assembly in Detroit will restart producing the Viper in 2015 model year guise in mid-November.

Considering the Nissan GT-R outsold this low-volume bruiser by a single unit in September, that idled plant, a previously ginormous unsold inventory and a whopping five-figure discount, Dodge people shouldn't kick back, believing the Viper won't face another troubling situation in the nearest future.

That $86,680 MSRP without including the gas guzzler charge was basically an opportunity for certain few folks to finally get their hands on a Viper at a super low price. Once the discount's heat wears off and all those folks buy their share of Viper magic, it's easy to foresee a future situation where Dodge will have to choose a second time between idling the Conner Avenue plant or a big discount.
