Have you noticed that Volvo doesn't have much of a pulse recently? Thankfully, while they are busy testing safety systems, their recently created Polestar performance division is making these awesome blue rockets.
Today, we're going to take another look at the V60 Polestar, which is a mid-size wagon with a performance twist. It features a cosmetically enhanced version of the body launched with the 2014 V40 facelift. The wings are wider; the nose is sharper and the whole thing sits a bit lower.
Our favorite feature is the Sky Blue paint, as it has a retro vibe while still being modern. Volvo paired that up with a set of light 20-inch Polestar wheels that give a muscular and distinctive look to the car.
But the interesting bit is what's under the bonnet. Volvo is replacing its bigger engines with ones that are turbocharged and supercharged, but have fewer cylinders. Polestar chose to play with the old 3-liter inline-6 and hiked the output to 350 horsepower and 500 Nm (368 lb-ft).
The extra grunt equals a 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) run in 4.9 seconds, which means we can compare it to the Mercedes C 450 AMG Sport wagon. This next video shows you that, while on paper the V40 Polestar is not as cool as a BMW M4, it sounds particularly nice and has plenty of performance to offer.
Oh, and let's not forget that there are Ohlins shocks and a carbon fiber stabilizer bar keeping things in check while on track. Only 750 units of the Polestar branded S60 and V60 will be made each year. They will be available in major markets such as Canada, the Netherlands, Japan, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom and the USA.
