With all the hype which came with the introduction of the all-new generation of Yamaha superbikes, some live track action was probably the one thing missing from the big picture and a most anticipated feature. Yamaha has been kind enough to not make us wait for too long so here we are, with a piece of official footage showing the new R1 playing its favorite game.
The video after the jump shows the 2015 YZF-R1 letting loose around the Yamaha-owned Sportsland Sugo circuit in northern areas of Japan. Frankly, watching the new R1 going wild on a race track looks way better from third person view. Of course, the footage obtained from onboard cameras is cool and offers a very lifelike picture of what being at the helm of a bike feels like, watching how the bike behaves on the track. And that is because of the extra info Yamaha added to the video.

Yamaha outdid itself with the new R1, and we daresay that this superbike is the most technologically advanced bike in standard trim we saw so far. Many other bikes are loaded with a heap of electronic aids, but the 2015 Yamaha YZF-R1 tops them all.
In fact, the greatness of this video is given by the very addition of extra info on what the electronics are doing. Coupling the awesome sound of the crossplane engine with the visual indicators at the bottom of the screen provides a more comprehensive understanding of how much is happening underneath the sleek bodywork.
Thanks to this we can see how and when the electronics are intervening in the riding experience. It’s really neat to see the tilt angle and the key moments when features such as the Traction Control, Slide Control, Lift Control, Quickshifter, Launch Control, or Unified Brake System (with ABS) are being used to make riding safer while granting peak performance.
Frankly, seeing the new R1 doing 271 km/h (168 mph) in the 5th gear is really thrilling. Remains to be seen how all these features will help Yamaha in 2016 when a full-fledged factory racing team will join the World Superbike grid.
