Watch the Fastest VW Golf in the World Outrun a 1,300 HP Nissan GT-R

When talking about Volkswagen Golfs, the tuning world basically offers something for every taste. We’re feeling quite speedy today, so we’re bringing you... the fastest Golf in the world, a car that can beat an 1,300 hp GT-R in a drag race. Meet 16vampir, a Mk 1 Volkswagen Golf that makes full use of German engineering. The car is run by the crew who put together its ECU mapping, Boba Motoring. We’ve talked about the pocket-sized monster before and now the blood-thirsty Mk1 has set a new VW AWD world record, pulling an 8.29s quarter mile at 281.8 km/h (175 mph). While some of you rejoice when seeing such numbers, other may be more keen on the real-world experience. Well, we can’t take you to the track in order to witness the 16vampir’s appetite, but the clip below shows the Golf devouring a 1,300 hp GT-R. Look closely and you’ll notice Godzilla’s driver even got the head start, thanks to a superior reaction time. Even so, the lightweight Golf passes the Nissan as the sequential transmission is taken into fourth gear. Sure, GT-Rs go to 2,000 hp and beyond, but this Golf is still uber-cool. A 2L turbo does all the work

This Golf replaces displacement with a custom turbocharger supplied by Extreme Tuners, which the crew recently decided to take to full boost (read: 4 bar). To get an idea of the technical implication of such a turno, check out the piping in the engine compartment - you’ll think you’re dealing with a fire hydrant.

In this form, the engine delivers 1,100 hp and 1,000 Nm (737.5 lb-ft) of torque. As we mentioned before, the powerplant works with a sequential gearbox. This offers four rations, being optimized for the quarter mile run and was supplied by Don Octane.

In case you’re curious about the take-off, you should know the 60-foot roll off is completed in 1.35s and yes, the thing does require countersteering.

As for a more detailed view on the acceleration figures, the Boba Motoring Golf plays the 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) game in 1.9s, while the 100 to 200 km/h (62 to 124 mph) sprint takes 2.57s - 1.7 seconds later and this Mk 1 hits 250 km/h (155 mph).

Records are meant to be broken and we expect to see Boba Motoring take their retro Golf even further for the 2015 season.
