He’s been always trying to stand out with something, but it seems will.i.am just won’t quit before proving to the world the term he claims he invented - fashionology - does exist. Recent reports say that the pop star-turned-tech-developer is working on a luxury smartband for Gucci now.
It turns out there is somebody interested in the smartwatch the Black Eyed Peas singer created. By that we mean the Puls gizmo, of course, which is a fully independent smartwatch that has its own SIM card and doesn’t rely on being connected to a smartphone to work.
The watch was created under the singer’s will.i.am+ company, but now it appears that the pop artist managed to partner up with Gucci to create something similar for the famous high-end fashion house.
Talking at a press conference at Baselworld, the musician said he has joined forced with Gucci Timepieces on a “smartband” that will function without any smartphone or mobile device.
According to Vogue, it has the ability to make and receive phone calls, send and receive text messages and emails, hold music, maps and plenty of other functions specific to smartphones. Since it’s a wrist accessory it will also track the wearer’s fitness and even posses a “sophisticated personal assistant” activated by voice command.
“Wearable technology and smart devices represent a new frontier for the fashion industry. It is very appropriate that Gucci is leading the way through this collaboration with will.i.am, as innovation has always been such an important part of our DNA,” Gucci President and CEO Marco Bizzari both wrote in a statement, according to the source.
