The Volkswagen Night that previews the Geneva Motor Show opening is currently taking place and we’re already on the set to take a look at everything that’s new from the German group. Luckily for us, VAG now includes Bentley as well so we can now show you the 2015 Continental GT V8 S in the metal.
Our live photos surprised a model wearing a completely different color than what the company showed us in its press photos. If that one was wearing a certain green hue, this one is blue at heart and wears a new hashtag on its bumpers: #NewV8S.
That’s what Bentley would like you to think, that this is a completely reworked model but in truth, that’s not completely accurate. You see, the visual changes are noticeable up front and all around the car’s body but they can hardly qualify as deep enough to deem this as a completely new car.
Under the skin the same old D1 platform is keeping things together, even though the engine line-up was changed a little here and there. The V8 S we’re looking at here, for example, has exactly the same amount of power for the 2015 model, sitting flat at 528 HP and 680 Nm (501 lb-ft) of torque.
On the other hand, the one version that received a bit more attention was the W12 version that now has 590 HP and 720 Nm (531 lb-ft) of torque coming from the 6-liter mill under the bonnet. That’s 15 HP and 20 Nm more than the previous model.
Those might seem like small, barely noticeable differences but Bentley also claims that their car is now efficient due to cylinder on demand technology that can actually turn off 6 of the 12 cylinders when they are not needed. That will drive CO2 emissions and fuel consumption down but we’re thinking that won’t make a huge difference for the people buying such luxurious rides.
