At the Nissan stand in China at the Auto Shanghai 2015 venue two world premieres shined brighter than the rest of the cars on display: the Lannia and the new, hybrid version of the Murano. The electrified version of the Japanese company’s flagship crossover is what caught our eye the most.
It’s the first time the Murano gets this treatment and choosing China for this occasion seems only right as the country is the world’s biggest market at the moment even if it shows signs of cooling down a bit.

On the outside and the inside, things look exactly the same. If you’ve seen a Murano before, you know how the hybrid looks like. Of course, there are a couple of new badges here and there that let people know they’re not dealing with a conventional car though. The wheels also have new design and that’s about it when it comes to differentiating the new car from the rest of the range.

The important part lies under the skin though. The 2016 Murano Hybrid has the same powertrain as the Infiniti QX60 Hybrid codenamed QR25DER.

What that means is that there’s a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder supercharged petrol engine being used for propulsion along with a 15 kW (20 HP) electric motor. Both of them are hooked up to a Dual Clutch System. Lithium-Ion batteries are being used as a power source for the electric motor while the internal combustion engine has a peak output of 250 HP and 243 lb-ft (329 Nm) of torque.

Unfortunately, Nissan was coy with the details on how fast the car is or how far it would go on pure electric mode. They didn’t even provide a combined mpg figure but those details will be unveiled at a later date, in the near future, as the Japanese press release claims that the Murano Hybrid will go on sale this summer in China.
