We still have a month or so to wait until Movistar Yamaha will introduce the 2015 liveries of Valentino Rossi’s and Jorge Lorenzo’s motorcycles and leathers. The launch of the 2015 looks is scheduled for 28 January in an event which will take place on Movistar’s home ground in the Spanish capital of Madrid.
Rossi and Lorenzo will also be present on the Jarama Circuit north of Madrid for shooting a promo video which will be presented at the launch. However, until we get to see the official photos of the bikes, there is some speculation we will indulge in, since there are certain rumors that the livery is about to change.

Monster’s M remains unchanged, Movistar’s one grows

If anything, there is one thing which will remain unchanged in the 2015 livery and that element is Monster Energy Drinks green M. Yamaha, Monster and Movistar ran into a bit of trouble earlier this year, before the season started, because the energy drinks manufacturer did not agree to change the position or the dimensions of its logo on the side of the bikes.

As the contract with Yamaha most likely contained specific parts related to this issue, Monster simply said they will stick to the contract, regardless of how much money title sponsor Movistar offered Yamaha. We can speculate that Iwata and Movistar could only make a change to the green M zone after paying Monster a hefty sum which was not exactly worth the trouble.

However, gp-inside tells us that sources close to Yamaha’s MotoGP enterprise claim that Movistar is eyeing to extend their presence on the bike and are looking forward to buying more real estate for their own green M, since making Monster’s smaller is impossible.

The same sources say that for 2015, Yamaha might go for Yamaha (Movistar) blue rims instead of the habitual black ones. The Spanish telecom giant is reportedly extremely happy with the results and exposure Yamaha’s MotoGP season provided and is planning to invest even more in the team.

While this is great news for Iwata, it will be interesting to see how the relationship with Monster will develop. 2015 is only the second year of the 5 Iwata and Monster have agreed to spend together before Movistar was confirmed as a title sponsor, but if the next season will be just as productive s 2014 and Movistar will want even more space on the bike, things will definitely become a bit tensioned.

Fiat looking for more exposure for Abarth?

Likewise, the rumors have it that the “Fiat Professional” logo will no longer be featured on the 2015 YZR-M1 machines. Fiat is believed to replace their logo with that of Abarth, the custom brand they own, most likely in an effort to make it more visible.

What if Movistar keeps on supplementing the funding and is also trying to buy other sponsors out of their deals with Yamaha, we dare ask. Could we see a Movistar Yamaha bike as sober as the Repsol Honda? Our guess is that we could, even though it’s hard to believe this could happen in 2016. However, if Rossi or Lorenzo claim the title in 2015, who knows…
