Yamaha extends the deadline for online reservations for the track-only YZF-R1M machines through February 28, at midnight. Riders and teams that are in search of their next track machine can order these carbon-fiber beasts only online, with the steps and benefits for acquiring one being similar to what Yamaha offered so far.
The R1M is still advertised as a limited edition motorcycle, but it looks like the limit is going to be continuously extended, as demand for these machines is still very strong.

With the allocations for each country where the YZF-R1M machines were available quickly selling out, it is no surprise to anyone that Yamaha is willing to capitalize as much as possible on this model.

Iwata's M-suffixed R1 is an evolution of the base superbike, and is equipped with higher-grade key components, with the semi-active Ohlins suspensions being perhaps the most important upgrade from the stock R1. The R1M also comes with magnesium wheels, a carbon fiber fairing, and a brushed aluminum tank, plus all the race-ready electronics package.

The ordering extension may have something to do with the recall that affected the entire 2015 MY R1 and R1M population

Now, Yamaha may have decided to prolong the availability of the R1M in an attempt to make up for the whole R1 and R1M recall business at the end of 2015.

We remind you that the entire 2015 MY YZF-R1 and YZF-R1M population was called back for an extensive repair to fix a faulty transmission. The Second gear sprocket could break under extreme tension, causing the transmission to cease and increase the risk of a crash.

Even more, the defective gear could also damage the third and the fourth gears, so Yamaha decided to recall all the R1 and R1M machines and have their gearboxes upgraded with stronger components.

We have strong reasons to believe that the R1M bikes that are currently being sold have been already upgraded. If you're ready to spend around €24,000 on a 2016 Yamaha YZF-R1M, you've got one month to decide, albeit only a 29-day month.
