If you're fans of the Maserati brand, but think the current roster is too mainstream, here's a unique machine you won't be able to get enough of. It's called the 2015 Zagato Maserati Mostro, and it combines modern tech with old design.
We've loved just about every unique car made by coachbuilders Zagato over the past decade. Highlights include the stunning Aston Martin V12, a redesigned BMW Z4 and the AC 378 GT, which was a wet dream on wheels.
The Mostro is sure to appeal to old-school Maserati fans because its design is based on the 1957 Maserati 450S Costin Zagato Coupe. It starts with an especially long nose, while continuing to fastback rear design vaguely reminiscent of the Bugatti Type 57.
Under the skin is a bit of GranTurismo tech, as the Mostro is motivated by a Maserati V8. This naturally aspirated mill helps itself to the gears of a six-speed semi-automatic transmission.
The good news is that you can buy one… one of five, actually. Zagato has been commissioned to assemble a handful of examples to celebrate the centenary of the Maserati brand. Details regarding pricing are unknown at the moment, but it won't be cheap. An Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione retails for around $200,000, and we believe this Maserati is worth about three times as much.
With every panel fabricated from carbon fiber and production begin strictly limited, this Maserati is one car you won't find on any official website. All five examples need to be assembled by the end of 2015, so we'll soon find out more.
This next video, courtesy of NM2255, shows how the 4.7-liter V8 engine roars into action during the 2015 Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este. We think it sounds more like the classic Maserati Bora mid-engined supercar than a GranTurismo.
