When Chrysler broke out the news that the Challenger’s Hellcat engine is too wide to fit in the Viper’s belly, many tears of petrol were shed over the web. Don’t be sad though, we might have something to quench your Mopar crossbreeding thirst, namely a 1970 Dodge Challenger that has received a Viper heart transplant.
This is a muscle car that’s gone deep within the restomod woods. Like we said, the centerpiece here is a 2004 Gen. 3 Viper 506.5ci (8.3-liter) naturally-aspirated V10, which has been tweaked a little bit and now delivers 550 horses. The Viper’s 6-speed Tremec manual accompanies its life partner.

As you can imagine, the list of mods is much more complex and you can find out all about this below.

Powertrain:
  • Heavy Duty 83/4 rear end
  • 3;55 posi green style axle bearings

  • Magnum force tubular a-arm suspension
  • Coil overs
  • Tubular k-member NASCAR style sway bar
  • Adjustable links and billet mounts
  • Quick ratio variable rate power steering rack
  • Body has sub frame connecters crossed and x-ed
  • Engine compartment braced with inner fender shock tower braced
  • Radiator support braced
Exterior:
  • 2010 challenger tail lights
  • Halo head lights
  • Door handles and parking lights have been shaved
  • Smoked window glass
Interior:
  • Power windows
  • Power seat
  • Heated seats
  • Door panels, kick panels and console are leather double stitched with snake skin inserts

  • All electric gauges
  • 200 mph GPS speedometer
  • Navigation and DVD system with back up camera
  • Tilt steering wheel
  • Viper style seat belts
  • Custom lights under the fender wells

Alas, there’s a dark side to this story. First of all, there are few custom touched that throw this car into overkill land, such as those lights in the fender wells. Nonetheless, while those could be removed, we are still left with the serious price tag of the of the thing, $88,000.

While this is a tad more expensive than the starting price for the 2015 Dodge Viper SRT, it appears the market has already placed the “overpriced” tag on the car - the thing showed up on eBay earlier this month, but the highest bid, out of 56 offers, was less than half that value.
