While we’re here writing about some of the coolest classic rides on the market being stored in museums, there are families out there that not only own one, but don’t even drive it. This 1973 Jaguar E-Type Series III V12 manual roadster was passed throughout the same family, from grandfather to nephew, yet was almost never taken to the road. After it was hidden for more than 25 years, the 7,700-mile (12,392 km) beauty will soon go under the hammer.
It was registered on August 15, 1973 by the grandfather of its current owner, yet the car was rarely used. It spent much of its early life in a garage at the family's home in Warwickshire, UK. 20 years later, the classic Jaguar was passed onto the son of the first owner and again remained unused in the same garage. They did take care of the E-Type, as it was properly immobilized, and oil was put into the cylinders.

A full service was eventually applied in 2006, after which point it was once again placed into storage. When the father died in September last year, the 1973 Jaguar E-Type was passed to the current owner, who decided to break the chain and sell it to somebody who would truly appreciate it.

Apparently, the dust-covered car will now receive a careful restoration at classic car specialists Tolman Motorsport. After that, it will head to Silverstone circuit for the auction on May 23, with an estimate of between £75,000 and £90,000 ($111,497 to $133,796).

Even though we read the auction’s announcement and wrote this piece on the car, we almost feel like we’re reporting on some sort of a prank. I mean, honestly, how can somebody own such a beauty and leave it abandoned in a barn for more than 25 years?
