We've talked about Boba Motoring on countless occasions and it's all thanks to their obsession for tuning classic Mk 1 Volkswagen Golfs into alarmingly powerful sleepers. On this occasion though, the crew brings us an 1,056 PS Golf that likes to play games with a Yamaha R1 and by "games" we mean racing on the highway.
Before we get to the... do-not-try-this-at-home action, we must talk machinery though. All that oomph packed in the little German comes from a two-liter 16V four-cylinder engine, hence the 16Vampir nickname. At 1,001 Nm (738 lb-ft), you can be pretty sure this thing will bite more than just your neck.
Just don't ask about the lag - the two liters are whipped by a Garrett GTX4202R turbo pushing a monstrous 3.4 bar (49 psi) of boost. To get an idea of how far things have gone in terms of engine internals, you should know th unit is limited to 9,000 rpm, while running on E85. The engine is mated to a six-speed manual, for hellish shifting pleasure.
The Golf puts all that power down via a 4Motion all-wheel system and set of 17-inch Porsche wheels, shod in 205/40 R17 Toyo R888 semi-slicks. The result? For instance, a top speed north of 300 km/h (186 mph).
Do keep in mind that the gear ratios are acceleration-optimized, so the triple-digit speed sprints are out of this world.
As for the aforementioned racing, it seems the driver and his filming passenger decided to act as if they were in a Group B rally monster. Well strapped into their bucket seats with the help of motorsport harnesses and viewing the world from inside a rollcage, but with no helmets or fireproof clothing, the pair uses the highway as a battleground.
Their opponent? a Yamaha R1. The superbike is close to stock condition, with the rider treating the throttle as an on-off switch. Despite this, the Golf just can't be bothered, leaving the 182 hp bike trailing in its wake on every occasion they race.
Add some extra safety gear, a track and we'd be in for quite a battle.
