2015 Corvette Recall: Only 46 Examples Affected

The C7 Corvette is arguably the best of the breed up to now. The base LT1 6.2-liter small-block lump has been improved a little for 460 horsepower with the sports exhaust system, the 2015 Z06 is a mad and enticing offer with 650 blown ponies, while the 8L90 eight-speed automatic rounds off the technical package nicely. In addition to the added get-up-and-go, the seventh-gen ‘Vette is a better looking machine than the slightly boring C6 predecessor.

However, the nameplate isn’t without faults. The rear-wheel drive American sportscar has been subjected to a number of recalls in 2014 - the Year of the Recalls. Just to note the most important of them all, we’ll remind you that around 900 vehicles were called back due to two peculiar defects: the possibility of fracturing the airbag module back plate, as well as a parking brake system that was operation only one of the two rear-placed park-brake drums.

Yikes! In addition to the previously mentioned, General Motors is now announcing that the 2015 model year is subjected to a new safety recall. According to the manufacturer, 46 units of the ‘Vette built between September 26th and October 2nd, 2014, are due a visit to the service department for a tightening problem.

The “toe link outer ball joint on the rear suspension may not have been properly tightened,” apparently.

Because of this potential fault, a loose toe link may translate to a rear suspension system that produces metallic rattling noises in scenarios such as hard cornering or when going over imperfect road surfaces. General Motors informs that two of the 46 cars are currently located in Germany, one is in Canada and the rest are still in the United States of America.

GM will soon notify owners of the recall and fix the problem at no cost to the customers, with “shuttle service or some other form of courtesy transportation is available and will be provided at no charge.” Last but not least, don’t forget to check if your 2015 Chevrolet Corvette is affected by calling the NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236, Chevrolet at 1-800-222-10-20 or by accessing www.safecar.gov.
