If you were expecting something spectacular for the new BMW 1 Series DTM Sport Edition model you’re bound to be disappointed. As we said last week when we mentioned it for the first time, the cars wearing this nomenclature won’t have anything different compared to the M Sport models.
The guys from Bimmertoday managed to get their hands on a leaflet showing one such car in all its greatness. Basically, it’s the same as the M Sport model. The only difference is that you can have this version at a more ‘competitive price’. What that means we don’t know just yet as BMW made no official statements about it yet.
However, judging by the fact that owners who already ordered their cars with the M Sport package will get a €2,900 discount from their order which roughly translates into exactly what they paid for the more aggressive styling.
Couple that with the fact that the M Sport package will no longer be available starting with November 1 and that it will be replaced with this ‘DTM Sport Edition’ version, we reckon it’s all just a marketing scheme that gives a different name to something we are already familiar with.
Could we see the DTM Sport Edition come free of charge? Not likely, but a hefty discount is one possibility. For it you’ll get everything the M Sport package has to offer including 18” light alloy wheels, xenon headlights and new trims inside.
Such a move doesn’t seem all that likely considering that the intake rate of the M Sport package is extremely high on the F20 1 Series. However, if it was to be put in place, it would be only in specific markets to further boost the popularity of the model.
Either way, this would only be in place until the facelift comes out next year, in March. So you'd better jump on the occasion to get one if you're a fan of the 1 Series.
