With the new generation of X5 models BMW wants to reiterate the faith it has in the Sport Activity Coupe. That being said, it’s hard to deny the point the Bavarian manufacturer is making considering they sold over 250,000 units of the first iteration.
Australia will be getting the F16 model for a rather spicy price tag. The cheapest version starts at AUD115,400 and it’s just the entry-level xDrive30d model with a 3-liter inline 6-cylinder single turbo plant making 258 HP and 560 Nm (413 lb-ft) of torque.

Sure, it sounds like a lot but keep in mind this is a 2 ton car. However, for that price tag you also get a lot of standard features that include the 8-speed automatic gearbox (paddles included), all-wheel drive, driving modes, LED headlights, lane departure warning, collision warning and pedestrian warning with city braking function. All cars also get a built-in SIM card that will call for help in case of an emergency.

Other standard features include a head-up display, a 10.25” screen for the iDrive functions and rear-view camera that we have a hunch will be more than necessary. All round, it’s a great package for this price point.

There are more expensive choices as well, though. Basically, the Australian market will have access to all models in the range, from the aforementioned xDrive30d to the xDrive50i and M50d alternatives, the last one being the most expensive as well.

That’s because it’s the only M Performance Model in the range for now and offers the famous tri-turbo 3-liter inline 6-cylinder N57S engine that makes 381 HP and 740 Nm (546 lb-ft) of torque. The price for this model starts at AUD157,900.

That price point grants you access to amenities such as Driving Assistant Plus (includes an adaptive cruise control system with stop and go functionality and automatic parking), four-zone climate control, the Harman/Kardon sound system and metallic paint. Of course, if you’re already so high in the 100k range you might as well get the Bang&Olufsen system that’s worth every penny.

The xDrive50i model gets the exact same standard features as the M50d but comes with a different engine and price tag. Starting at $151,600 it is fitted with a 4.4-liter V8 making 450 HP and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque and is faster than the MPA model. It will also be a lot more thirsty though.
