2015 Ford EcoSport Facelift Boasts Small but Welcomed Improvements

Oh dear, where do we start with the Ford EcoSport? As an idea, the mini SUV is brilliant. Since the second generation of the nameplate launched in 2012, this thing sold like hotcakes yet everyone was complaining about the same thing: the hideosity at the rear, namely the full-size spare wheel located on the liftgate. At long last, the 2015 Ford EcoSport facelift makes amends for that design error.

Underpinned by the Blue Oval’s global B-car platform, the front-wheel drive Ford EcoSport facelift benefits from a stiffer torsion bar at the rear for greater control of body roll. While we’re on the dynamics front, prospective buyers may be interested in finding out that revised spring and damper rates promise to improve handling even more. That’s not all engineers did to the EcoSport though.

Compared to the pre-facelift, the 2015 model rides 10 mm lower. Both the power steering and Electronic Stability Control system have been “tuned for European roads.” As far as convenience is concerned, there’s an available heated windscreen as one might find on the Ford Fiesta, as well as heated side mirrors and front seats. Thanks to thicker sound deadening materials, the 2015 EcoSport is quieter than the pre-facelift.

I know what you’re thinking right now and you’re bang-on. Losing the rear-mounted spare wheel translates to a potentially useless tire mobility kit. As Marlon Brando said at the end of Apocalypse Now - “The horror.” Moving on to other improvements, we’re happy to announce that the 2015 Ford EcoSport is enhanced with a basic Ford SYNC 4-inch color infotainment system. Sat nav and a rear parking camera are extras.

Under the hood of the 2015 Ford EcoSport facelift, all is new and all is old except for the 1.5-liter TDCi. The 1.5 turbo diesel engine offers 95 horsepower (5 more than before) and complies to the Euro 6 emissions standard. In theory, the 1.5 oil burner drinks a mere 4.4 liters of diesel per 100 km (64.2 UK mpg). Other engines available for the revised EcoSport include the 125 horsepower 1.0 EcoBoost three-cylinder turbo petrol and 1.5-liter Ti-VCT naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol-fed mill with 110 horsepower on tap.
