That’s 5 percent to 29 percent more frugal than 2014 F-150 models depending on engine and driveline configuration on the combined cycle. How does the most economical powerplant of the 2015 Ford F-150 fare against its main and toughest competitors?

Well, let’s say the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 5.3-liter V8 4x2, 2015 Ram 1500 5.7-liter HEMI V8 and 2015 Toyota Tundra 4.6-liter V8 4x2 have a lot of catching up to do. The 2015 F-150 with the 2.7 EcoBoost engine beats the aforementioned to a pulp.

Not bad for a truck that boasts with 325 hp and 375 lb-ft (508 Nm) of torque, a towing capacity of 8,500 lbs and a max payload of 2,250 lbs. If you’re looking for the best payload rating in the segment, then the 2015 Ford F-150 4x2 equipped with the big boy 5.0-liter V8 Ti-VCT is the full-size pickup truck for you.

“We are delivering with the toughest, smartest and most capable F-150 ever – and now the highest EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings of any full-size gas-powered pickup in America.” said Raj Nair, Ford group vice president of Global Product Development.

It falls 100 lbs short in terms of max towing to the 2015 Chevy Silverado 1500 5.3 V8 4x2, but it trumps every truck in the segment with its max payload of 3,300 lbs. Not bad for a light-duty F-Series with 385 ponies and 387 lb-ft (524 Nm) of torque. Looking for the best light-duty truck for towing duties?

Cue the 2015 Ford F-150 3.5-liter EcoBoost 4x2 and its 365 hp and 420 lb-ft (569 Nm) of twist. In this configuration, the Blue Oval’s all-new workhorse is capable of trailering a whopping 12,200 lbs of junk. That rating leaves the 2015 Silverado 1500 6.2-liter V8 4x2 trailing behind by a mere 200 pounds.
