Deliveries for the long-awaited 2015 Ford Mustang may have started in the United States of America, with Europe to follow suit in at the dawn of 2015, but Australia will also get the new pony. The Blue Oval announced that first Aussie deliveries will be taken care of a year from now, in December 2015.
It’s a little curious why there’s so much delay between the deliveries of the UK-spec, right-hand drive ‘Stang and the similarly specced Australian model. Still, even though order books have just opened for buyers from the Land Down Under, demand exceeded expectation if you take into consideration Ford received 15,000 “expressions of interest” and more than 1,200 pretty firm orders.
A statement from Ford Australia reads that those 1.2k orders alone amount for almost a year’s supply, which is not that surprising. As a brief reminder, the 2015 is the first ever Mustang to be offered in right-hand drive as well. Just like the European-spec Mustang, the one that will be shipped in Australia will be made at Ford’s Stateside Flat Rock Michigan manufacturing complex.
If you’re curious about pricing, there’s no info on that at the present moment, but do expect it to hold a price of AUD 50,000 for the 2.3 EcoBoost model and AUD 70,000 for the full-on 5.0 Coyote V8-powered GT. Just like Europe, there won’t be any 3.7L V6 offered because there’s no demand for such a mill.
Both the 233 kW (312 horsepower) /432 Nm 2.3-liter EcoBoost and 303 kW (406 horsepower) / 525 Nm V8 GT are available in fastback or convertible format and are mated as standard to a six-speed stick shift. If you need automatic shifting, there’s a six-speed automatic slush box you can tick from the options list.
